1. Tight Integration with FortiGate / Security Fabric
   The FS‑248E‑POE can be managed via FortiLink from a FortiGate firewall, allowing unified management of wired and wireless devices, centralised policy enforcement, consistent user/device authentication, and reduced administrative overhead.

2. PoE/PoE+ Capability
   It supplies power over Ethernet on 24 of its RJ‑45 ports (802.3af/at), enabling deployment of devices like wireless access points, IP phones, cameras, etc., without needing separate power infrastructure. Total PoE power budget is up to ~370 W.

3. Good Port Density in 1U Form Factor
   With 48 Gigabit Ethernet ports plus 4 SFP uplink ports in a 1U rack‑mount chassis, it gives a lot of connectivity in a relatively compact physical footprint.

4. High Performance Switching

   • Switching capacity of ~104 Gbps (full duplex) supports handling of high traffic loads.

   • Low latency (<1 microsecond) helps for sensitive or real‑time applications.

   • Packet buffer size of ~1.5 MB helps with bursty traffic handling.

5. Scalable VLAN & Aggregation Support
   Supports up to 4,000 VLANs (4K), link aggregation groups (LAG) of up to 8 ports, which helps in organizing and scaling network segmentation and resiliency.

   • Internal AC power supply covering a wide voltage range (100‑240V) simplifies deployment across different regions.

   • Optional redundant power supply (FRPS‑740) for higher availability.

   • Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) is rated as greater than 10 years.
