QNAP TL-R1620Sdc
Product Description
Bay SAS-3 / SATA III JBOD Expansion Enclosure with Dual Controllers. This 3 RU rackmount storage enclosure features sixteen 2.5″/3.5″ bays that support both 12 Gb/s SAS-3 and 6 Gb/s SATA III drives in JBOD configuration, delivering fast and reliable storage for large backups, virtualization applications, surveillance recordings, and more. Featuring six 12 Gb/s SFF-8644 wide ports, it uses the Broadcom SAS DataBolt bandwidth optimization technology to achieve 12 Gb/s transfer speeds by combining two 6 Gb/s devices. The dual path mini-SAS design sustains continuous operations even if an external JBOD cable is disconnected. This enclosure is designed to operate with a mini SAS compatible NAS running QTS / QuTS hero 4.5.1 or later or a computer running Windows Server 19.
Key Features
- Un-populated sixteen (16) bay network attached storage expansion module.
- Includes one (1) rail kit for mounting.
- Flexibly and economically expand the storage space of a dual-controller QNAP NAS for petabyte-level storage capacity.
- Dual path mini-SAS design with a redundant power supply for enhanced system reliability.
- QNAP dual-controller NAS can detect JBOD connections, and enter missing mode protection to prevent data corruption.
- DataBolt™ bandwidth optimization combines two (2) 6Gb/s connections into one 12Gb/s data stream to achieve faster speed with existing 6Gb/s infrastructure.
- Manage the storage space and settings of the connected TL-R1620Sdc with Storage Manager on the host NAS.
- The space-efficient short depth design makes it easy to install in small media cabinets or places with a lot of cabling.
Failure-resistant with a dual-controller, dual-path design
Connect the TL-R1620Sdc to a dual-controller QNAP NAS and create a redundant cross loop configuration that provides expansion units with redundant paths to the base NAS and protection between JBOD connections. If one or more paths to the TL-R1620Sdc disconnect, other expansion units can still communicate with the base NAS. This is essential for intermachine data protection and capacity scalability for uninterrupted mission-critical enterprise tasks.
Connect expansion units for petabyte-level storage capacity
The base NAS requires QES 2.1.1 (or later) and either Mini-SAS HD (SAS 12Gb/s SFF-8644), Mini-SAS (SAS 6Gb/s SFF-8088) ports or a PCIe-based SAS expansion card (sold separately).
Highly efficient, reliable and scalable
The TL-R1620Sdc is powered by a low-power 28nm SAS35x28R SAS Expander and supports 12/6 Gb/s SAS/SATA drives. Both controllers have three (3) Mini-SAS HD (SFF-8644) ports, and each SAS wide port combines four (4) SAS 12Gb/s channels for up to 48Gbps bandwidth.
Supports SAS DataBolt Bandwidth technology
Featuring Broadcom SAS DataBolt bandwidth optimization technology, the TL-R1620Sdc uses intelligent data buffer for transferring data to drives at speeds that match the performance of the host NAS. Whether the TL-R1620Sdc uses 12Gb/s or 6Gb/s drives installed, the NAS host will transfer data to the TL-R1620Sdc at 12Gb/s, allowing you benefit from high-speed 12Gb/s SAS transmission with existing 6Gb/s infrastructure.
NAS storage management
Simply connect a TL-R1620Sdc to a dual-controller QNAP NAS and power it on. The NAS will detect the drives in the TL-R1620Sdc as newly-installed local drives. By installing the Storage and snapshots manager app on the host NAS, you can configure and manage the TL-R1620Sdc’s storage space by setting RAID groups, storage pools and snapshots. The TL-R1620Sdc can also be configured as the storage volume of the host NAS, allowing you to easily expand NAS storage to accommodate massive data or backup files.
Use drive adapter to install 2.5-inch SATA SSDs
While SATA 6Gb/s SSDs provide high-performance yet affordable storage, the lack of dual-port support makes them unsuitable for dual-controller environments. The QDA-SA2 adapter (sold separately) allows the use of a SATA 6Gb/s drive in a 3.5-inch SAS drive bay – providing the ability to expand storage capacity by using cost-effective SATA drives. By installing a SATA drive with the QDA-SA2 into the dual-controller TL-R1620Sdc, the SATA drive can share these SAS dual-port advantages to ensure a high-availability, fault-tolerant enterprise storage environment.
Short Depth Design
