Cisco Meraki MR36 – wireless access point – Wi-Fi 6 – cloud-managed
High Performance 802.11ax Wireless
The Cisco Meraki MR36 is a cloud-managed 2×2:2 802.11ax access point that raises the bar for wireless performance and efficiency. Designed for indoor use in small to medium-sized businesses, education, and other enterprise environments. The MR36 offers high throughput, enterprise-grade security, and simple management.
The MR36 provides a maximum of 1.5Â Gbps* aggregate frame rate with concurrent 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radios. A dedicated third radio provides real-time WIDS/WIPS with automated RF optimization, and a fourth integrated radio delivers Bluetooth scanning and beaconing.
With the combination of cloud management, high performance hardware, multiple radios, and advanced software features, the MR36 makes an outstanding platform for the most demanding of uses—including high-density deployments and bandwidth or performance-intensive applications like voice and high-definition video.
MR36 and Meraki Cloud Management
The MR36 is a Cisco Meraki cloud-managed wireless access point (AP), and it’s designed to work seamlessly with Meraki Cloud Management, which is the heart of the Meraki networking ecosystem. Because the MR36 is self-configuring and managed over the web, it can be deployed at a remote location in a matter of minutes, even without on-site IT staff.
Meraki Cloud Management is a centralized platform (dashboard) that allows administrators to manage Meraki devices like; MR (wireless) MS (switching), MX (security appliances), MG (cellular gateways), MV (cameras), MT (sensors).
Key Features of Meraki Cloud Management:
- Web-based dashboard for configuration and monitoring.
- Zero-touch provisioning: APs automatically connect to the cloud and download their configuration.
- Automatic firmware updates.
- Real-time visibility into clients, devices, and applications.
- Layer 7 traffic analysis.
- Alerts, troubleshooting tools, and remote packet capture.
- Role–based access control for admins.
Features
Dual–radio aggregate frame rate of up to 1.5 Gbps*
The MR36 access point offers a combined wireless speed of up to 1.5 Gbps by using two separate radios — one for the 5 GHz band, which can reach speeds up to 1,201 Mbps, and one for the 2.4 GHz band, offering up to 286 Mbps. With features like transmit beamforming and improved signal sensitivity, the MR36 can handle more connected devices at once compared to typical enterprise access points, delivering faster and more reliable performance even in busy environments.
Multi User Multiple Input Multiple Output (MU-MIMO)
The MR36 supports MU-MIMO and OFDMA, key features of Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), allowing it to send data to multiple devices at the same time. This is especially useful in places with lots of mobile users, as it boosts overall network performance and provides a smoother, faster experience for everyone connected.
Dedicated third radio delivers 24×7 wireless security and RF analytics
The MR36 has a separate third radio that constantly monitors the wireless environment. It scans for interference and detects potential security threats, like rogue access points, around the clock. Because this radio is dedicated just for scanning, it doesn’t affect the access point’s performance or slow down client connections — you get security, analytics, and high-speed access all at the same time.
Bluetooth Low Energy Beacon and scanning radio
The MR36 includes a built-in Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) radio that makes it easy to use BLE beacons and detect nearby Bluetooth devices. This allows for location-based apps and services, like indoor navigation or customer engagement tools. It’s also a great way to future-proof your network, so you’re ready for whatever new technologies or strategies come next.
Automatic cloud-based RF optimization
The MR36 automatically adjusts its wireless settings using real-time data from its built-in scanning radio. It sends this information to the Meraki cloud, which then fine-tunes things like channel choice, signal strength, and device connections. This means you get the best possible performance without needing extra equipment or technical know-how, even in challenging wireless environments.
Integrated enterprise security and guest access
The MR36 comes with built-in security features that make it easy to keep both employees and guests connected safely. It includes strong protection like AES encryption and supports enterprise-level login using tools like 802.1X and Active Directory, giving you the same level of security you’d expect from a wired network. For guests, you can quickly enable a secure, internet-only connection with just one click. It also includes PCI compliance checks, which help make sure your network meets security standards—especially useful for retail environments.
Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) & Mobile Device Management (MDM) integration
The MR36 works seamlessly with Meraki Systems Manager to provide smart, automatic security based on device status. With self-service setup, it’s quick and easy to roll out mobile device management (MDM) without needing extra hardware. Once devices are enrolled, the network can automatically apply the right firewall rules and traffic controls based on each device’s condition or role.
Application-aware traffic shaping
The MR36 includes an integrated layer 7 packet inspection, classification, and control engine, enabling the configuration of QoS policies based on traffic type, helping to prioritize mission-critical applications while setting limits on recreational traffic like peer-to-peer and video streaming. Policies can be implemented per network, per SSID, per user group, or per individual user for maximum flexibility and control.
Voice and video optimizations
Industry standard QoS features are built-in and easy to configure. Wireless MultiMedia (WMM) access categories, 802.1p, and DSCP standards support all ensure important applications get prioritized correctly, not only on the MR36, but on other devices in the network. Unscheduled Automatic Power Save Delivery (U-APSD) and new Target Wait Time features in 802.11ax clients ensure minimal battery drain on wireless VoIP phones.
Self-configuring, self-maintaining, always up-to-date
The MR36 is designed to be easy to set up and maintain. As soon as it’s plugged in, it automatically connects to the Meraki cloud, downloads its settings, and joins the correct network — no manual setup needed. If there’s a firmware update, the access point will download and install it on its own, keeping your network secure, up-to-date, and running smoothly with the latest features and fixes.
Advanced analytics
Drilling down into the details of network usage provides highly granular traffic analytics. Visibility into the physical world can be enhanced with journey tracking through location analytics. Visitor numbers, dwell time, repeat visit rates, and track trends can all be easily monitored in the dashboard and deeper analysis is enabled with raw data available via simple APIs.
 Warranty MR36
Meraki MR36 devices have a lifetime hardware warranty so long as certain conditions are met.
