Description
TerraMaster D8 Hybrid — an 8-bay hybrid direct-attached storage (DAS) enclosure that lets you install 4 SATA HDDs/SSDs and 4 M.2 NVMe SSDs in one unit, giving you both high-capacity storage and fast performance via USB 3.2 Gen 2 (up to 10 Gbps). It’s ideal for expanding storage, tiering “hot” SSD data and “cold” HDD data, and backing up large files across Windows, macOS, or Linux systems.

Features & Advantages
-
Hybrid storage flexibility: The D8 Hybrid allows you to combine four large-capacity SATA HDDs with four high-speed NVMe SSDs in one enclosure, letting you separate high-performance “active” data from bulk storage efficiently.
-
High overall capacity: With support for high-capacity 3.5″ drives, it can provide massive raw storage space, making it ideal for backups, media libraries, and long-term archiving.
-
Fast data transfer speeds: The USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) connection enables transfer speeds close to 1,000 MB/s when using NVMe SSDs, which is suitable for large file transfers and demanding workflows like video editing.
-
Direct-attached simplicity: As a DAS (Direct Attached Storage) device, it connects directly to your computer without needing network configuration, making setup straightforward and reducing complexity compared to a NAS.
-
Basic hardware RAID support: It supports RAID 0 and RAID 1 (on select SATA bays), providing options for either improved performance or data redundancy without relying solely on software RAID.
-
Tool-free and easy installation: The push-lock drive trays and accessible M.2 slots make drive installation and replacement quick and convenient.
-
Wide system compatibility: It works with Windows, macOS, and Linux systems, allowing flexible integration into different environments.
-
Efficient cooling design: The built-in smart cooling fan automatically adjusts speed to maintain safe drive temperatures while keeping noise relatively low.
-
Cost-effective performance mix: By combining HDD capacity with NVMe speed in one enclosure, it offers a practical balance between performance and storage cost compared to buying separate devices.
Typical Use Cases
✅ Expand storage for desktop/laptop workflows
✔ Large-media project editing
✔ Backup & archiving
✔ Expanding NAS capacity via USB
✔ Tiered storage (fast NVMe + big HDD)
Things to Know
-
10 Gbps USB limits peak NVMe performance (actual NVMe SSD throughput can exceed this).
-
Some RAID/drive management limitations compared to full NAS systems.
